Updated: January 12, 2021
On a dark night Batman star Adam West given ultimate tribute as massive Bat Signal light is beamed
into the skies over LA days after his death. Actor Burt Ward who played Robin joined thousands who
turned out to remember the late Caped Crusader.
Fans dressed as characters from "Batman" pose in front of a Bat Signal projected onto City Hall.
The actor played his premiere role as millionaire Bruce Wayne and superhero Batman in the 1960's
television series. The Bat Signal was used in the show when the fictitious Gotham City Police
Department needed to summon the superhero.
Burt Ward said: "He was a great family man, a wonderful husband, a wonderful father to his kids,
he loved humanity and he loved his fans. "I'm here to tell you that my friend Adam would want
every single one of you to be incredibly happy and to be joyous." Mayor Eric Garcetti, addressing
the "citizens of Gotham", named former Batman actors such as George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck.
West's family encouraged fans who are unable to attend the ceremony to make a donation to either the
Adam West Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Camp Rainbow Gold.
"You cant play Batman in a serious, square-jawed, straight-ahead way without giving the audience the
sense that theres something behind that mask waiting to get out, that hes a little crazed, hes strange."
