BILLY MUMY'S ORIGINAL LIS CONTRACT |
Updated: May 19, 2004
This contract is a Membership agreement into AFTRA (American Federation of
Television and Radio Artists) for Billy Mumy from LOST IN SPACE, dated March,
1960 with a receipt dated April 27, 1960. It was signed by his mother as he was
around 7 years old, and it supposedly was the prelude to his being in LOST IN
SPACE. There is a notation at the bottom of the contract that says "Red
Skelton". As any true LOST IN SPACE fan knows, Skelton was one of the investors
of the show, under Van Bernard Productions which is in the credits at the end of
every episode. Photo and letter of authenticity come with it. Priority Mail
shipping in U.S. is $4.00, elsewhere will be calculated after close of auction
depending on where buyer lives. Sorry I couldn't get a clear close-up of
contract.
The name of the document is "Designation and Application for Membership" in
AFTRA. On the bottom of the agreement is handwritten in blue pen March 15,
1960. Where it says "sign here" it says Billy Mumy but in paretheses it
says Mrs. C.W. or E.W. ( I can't quite make it out) Mumy, mother. It lists
an LA address, phone number, social security number and under agents name it
says Hazel McMillan. Then, under "Commitment and Date" it says March 19-Red
Skelton. It appears all was handwritten by Bill's mother. Then the receipt
that comes with it is for $50.00 and dated April 27, 1960.
The Certificate I got with it is signed by a representative of PSA/DNA
Authentication Services, A Collectors Universe Company.
I bought this item about a month ago (12/02) on Ebay from a collector's place called
"The Best of Yesterday".
Bill was about 7 years old so he probably couldn't sign himself. It
probably isn't DIRECTLY related to LOST IN SPACE but it is very coincidental
that Red Skelton is mentioned as he was an investor in the show.
I purchased this item from Donald Capen on 01/27/03. Donald was very kind to accept my
offer on the item, and ended the auction early.
Value: $200-Up.
