This Grave Walker commemorates one of the most popular horror movie classics of all times
"The Creature From The Black Lagoon". Universal Studios' 1954 theatrical release of the
movie starred Richard Carlson and Julia Adams and became one of the greatest horror movies
ever made. Produced in 3D, it was the first in a series of creature films to be released
by the Studios that would have a lasting effect on movie audiences and result in the Studios
being dubbed the "Home of the Monsters".
This Creature is one of the best Grave Walkers produced, "Put him in the front yard for
Halloween and watch the kids!
The Creature's appearance (scaled body, webbed feet and hands, and reptilian head) was
terrifying yet realistic mainly due to the splendid work of one of the greatest make-up
artists of all times: Bud Westmore. The Creature was played on land by stuntman Ben Chapman
and underwater by champion swimmer Ricou Browning who was forced to hold his breath for up
to four minutes for a scene and fittingly the costume's design was modeled after the Oscar
statue. The Creature has become one of, if not the, most popular monster from that period,
evidenced to this day by the Creature's phenomenal number of enthusiastic and loyal fans.
Value: $150.
