Bio:
Born in Santa Barbara, Del enlisted in the army after finishing school, and during a
tour of duty caught the acting bug after seeing a road company version of the famous
Clifford Odets play 'Picnic' in New York. He enrolled in the Pasadena Playhouse where
he appeared in more than 30 plays. During this time he won a number of TV guest roles
as well as occasional films. In 1961 Irwin Allen offered him the role of Seaman Kowski
in film 'Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea', and later signed him up to play Kowalski in
the television series of the same name.. When 'Voyage' ended, Del was offered the role
of Inspector Kobick in 'Land of the Giants' which he didn't take. He did however work
for Irwin again in an episode of 'The Time Tunnel'. Since then, Del has made many
other appearances in shows such as 'The Untouchables', 'Gunsmoke', 'Emergency!',
'Mannix', 'Wonder Woman', 'Dukes of Hazzard', 'The Incredible Hulk', 'Hunter',
'The Fall Guy', and 'Fame'. Most recently Del was nominated for a best actor award
on stage.
Message from Del:
It's been very gratifying to meet the fans of "Voyage". There are no nicer people anywhere.
It's amazing that there is so much interest in this show 30 years after it has gone off
the air and I'm delighted to have been associated with this Irwin Allen production.
Sincerely,
Del
It is with great sadness that we have just learned that Del Monroe, Kowalski in
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, passed away on Friday 5th June 2009. Allan Hunt contacted
us and said that a recent illness had developed into leukemia. Del was a great friend of
fans around the world and represented all that was wonderful and good about Irwin Allen's
worlds. He will long be remembered as Kowalski and we send our very deepest sympathies
and love to his family and friends.
