Forbidden Planet â€" first released March 15, 1956 details a 23rd-century crew of humans on an expedition to discover what happened to a colony mission that went to an alien planet 20 years prior. One of the most important movies in science fiction, Forbidden Planet rose above the wave of low-rent, creature-feature schlock that cluttered up the genre throughout much of the 1950s.
