1/35 scale Lunar Models Spindrift - 1989/90 ( first run version )

Includes display stand that reads: Spindrift, Land Of The Giant's, Manufactured by Lunar Models, Handcrafted by Jim Key.

This build-up was intended as a publicity piece for promotional advertisements that were used in part by Mike Evans at Lunar Models to publicize the 1/35 scale Spindrift assembly kit. After Mike built the 1st kit, it was decided that a more accurate set be made up. I undertook two build-ups to achieve this goal. The first of the two included a full interior, inaccurate clear bubble dome, and inaccurate insignia. The second build-up ( which is featured here ) had the corrected red bubble, accurate insignia, but was not built with an interior.

For purposes of general sales, this version was deemed most appropriate because it represented the model kit in it's standard form ( the interior kit was an optional add-on at that time ). I added the wooden stand with support pylon for display afterwards.

This build-up was shown to Gary Conway ( Steve Burton ) at Dixie Trek '92. It was the last time it was shown in public.
