An original hand-painted pitch book for an ABC TV series adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyles The Lost World ( Hodder and Stoughton, 1912 ). The book features illustrations in gouache, marker ink, and pencil of set pieces from the lost world, including a dinosaur eating a man, an ominous waterfall, cavemen from hell, monsters of the deep, and the graveyard of the damned. Allen directed a film adaptation of The Lost World ( 20th Century Fox, 1960 ). Although he had success adapting another of his film projects, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea ( ABC, 1964-68 ), for television, The Lost World was not produced. Measures 26 x 21 x 1 inches.
