THE TOWERING INFERNO SCRIPTS |
Updated: February 08, 2022
The Towering InfernoTHE original production script from the 1974 feature film about a fire in San Francisco's
tallest skyscraper.
Everything about this Irwin Allen disaster film was BIG. It was made by two big studios Warner Bros. and 20th
Century-Fox. It was adapted by the great screenwriter Stirling Silliphant from two big novels - The Tower by
Richard Martin Stern and THE GLASS INFERNO by Thomas Scortia and Frank M. Robinson. And its cast was very big,
led by Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Faye Dunaway, William Holden and Fred Astaire. Academy Award Best Picture
nominee. Won Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Editing, and Song ("We May Never Love Like This Again").
Also nominated for Best Supporting Actor (Astaire), Art Direction-Set Direction, Sound, and Score.
Script Details:
#328 (production number). The Towering Inferno. Written by Stirling Silliphant. Fourth Revised Shooting Final.
May 6, 1974. Contents: title page + 167 numbered pages. All pages are printed on yellow paper. 8.5" x 11" pages,
three-hole punched and bound with metal fasteners in heavy paper front cover (yellow) with printed title, film's
logo, etc. Back cover is missing. Name in pencil on the front cover (I do not find this name among the credits
for the film that I have seen). There are no other handwriten marks or notes.
If this isn't the final draft, it's close to it. Yet there are still differences. For example, the name of
Steve McQueen's character is "O'Hallorhan" in the film, but is "Shaughnessy" in this script. Interestingly, it's
O'Hallorhan in the previous draft, the Third Revised Shooting Final, dated April 18.
Condition:
Front cover lightly soiled and has a few small, very light stains. Back cover missing. Pages are nice, just minor
handling wear. Last page is a little wrinkled.
Value: $400.
