ORIGINAL JUPITER-2 CAST PAINTING (R.T. LEMRY) |
Updated: April 18, 2022
Original, vintage painting based on the 1960's television series "Lost in Space." Acrylic on stretched canvas. Fairly large size,
20" x 24" signed at the lower-right, "R. T. Lemry" undated, circa second half of the 20th century. The painting depicts a scene
from the beginning of the TV series ( 1965 ).
The view is the interior of the United States spaceship "Jupiter-2" a futuristic saucer shaped spacecraft, in the year 1997. The mission takes a single family, the Robinsons, on a five and a half year journey to an Earth like planet orbiting the star Alpha Centauri. The painting shows members of the Robinson family and U.S. Space Corps Major Donald West, cryogenically frozen in their suspended animation tubes, unaware that the nefarious Dr. Zachary Smith has hidden aboard the vessel and is awake.
At the right, above the multi colored controls, is a view screen showing meteors hurtling towards the ship. As the Robinsons and
Major West sleep, the "Jupiter-2 " is in space and flying at incredible speed toward its far away destination, but the evil
Dr. Smith is at the controls and is sabotaging the spaceship! But Dr. Smith's wicked plan goes awry, and he becomes trapped on the ship which is now severely off-course.
The expedition is hopelessly lost in the infinite depths of outer space. The Robot Model B-9 ( also known simply as "the Robot" )
is in the foreground of the painting one of the most famous Robots in science fiction. The Robot's major role was usually to
protect the youngest member of the crew in dangerous situations. It frequently employed catchphrases such as "It does not compute"
and "Danger, Will Robinson!"
Value: $350.
