What makes this edition so special is that I personally had this hand signed by John Williams & Bill Mumy.

John Williams signed the Lost in Space CD after his rare UK concert appearance in 1996 at the Barbican London, where he did a signing backstage. I had a few items signed, including this. Bill Mumy's signature was obtained at a Babylon 5 Convention in Blackpool that same year.

Original scores by John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Paul Sawtell, Alexander Courage, George Duning and Joseph Mullendore. Irwin Allen (1916-1991) is probably the only television producer who could possibly be the focal point of a multi-disc music collection. The composers featured here include Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Alexander Courage, and Joseph Mullendore what they have in common is work for Allen on his series Voyage To the Bottom of the Sea, Lost in Space, Time Tunnel, and Land of the Giants. The six CDs here are indispensable to movie music fans, representing John Williams' first forays into scoring science fiction on Lost in Space Voyage and Land of the Giants. Disc One, Lost in Space (Vol. 1), is extraordinary for showing John Williams writing big orchestral music without trying to sound like Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Richard Wagner, or Gustav Holst. The material is dramatic and memorable, with some emphatic horn parts. The highlight of the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea disc is Jerry Goldsmith's score for the episode "Jonah and the Whale." His music is superbly crafted not a note is wasted, nor a phrase out of place in this dark, ominous, moody score. Time Tunnel was the shortest-lived of all Allen's series; Williams tries to do the difficult (if not impossible) with the title theme write a piece of exciting music underscoring movement of the two heroes through time, rather than space. Some of the material recalls his music for Lost in Space, but is infinitely more subtle and sophisticated, with beautiful solo parts for wind and reed instruments amid the clash of sounds. Land of the Giants was Allen's last successful series, and once again Williams was called upon to write the main title theme as well as the music for the first episode. Much of Williams' music here emphasizes the bigness of the settings, amid the tension of the chase brisk tempos with huge masses of instruments seeming to emphasize the threat and terror of humans suddenly trapped in a world where everything is 12 times normal size. The writing is less memorable than some of the earlier scores, but is entertaining, and reveals a side of the "real" John Williams, not the borrower from established composers. Bruce Eder Editorial Reviews ...Those hurrying brass sections! Those chilling theremin-style keyboards! The sensation of being chased by an underwater monster or caught in a meteor shower! It can only be The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen.
