TOPPS GUM CARD DISPLAY BOX |
Updated: July 05, 2023
When I was a kid I went to the local drug store to be pick up new issues of Archie comic books for my collection. I remember
seeing this box displaying the "Lost in Space" cards sold by the Topps Company in 1966. These boxes were never thought of as collectibles at the time, and the store dealers just tossed them in the garbage when all the cards were sold.
The box came with 24 packs of cards / gum and sold for .5 cents each. The Box art displays a rare photo of John Robinson in
the paws of the giant cyclops. The shot was never used in the series. The side box panel displays the "Lost in Space" cast
without Dr. Smith or the robot. These boxes are very rare, and tough to find in any condition. Even harder to find one with
the top box lid not punched out. I purchased this item in a "Toy Shop" auction in 1999.
On July 21, 2001 a LIS Gum box in 8 grade condition had 84 bids on the eBay auction, and sold for $1,008.00.
Value: $1,500.
