These are preliminary sketches of the "Spider Smith" character in the 1998 Lost in Space Movie. Notice the animators first wanted four eyes, then three, then finally cut it down to the two we see in the film. One drawing even envisions the creature's entire face opening up into a huge set of jaws!

Besides the sketches a latex "Spider Smith" was created to aid the CGI animators when filming him in motion. Tim Burton's animators did this with their CGI Martians in the film "Mars Attacks".
