PLANET OF THE APES ORIGINAL JULIUS COSTUME |
Updated: March 27, 2005
"Julius" costume and display from Planet of the Apes.
(TCF, 1968) The cigar-chomping, hose-wielding Julius the
cagekeeper, who famously tells Charlton Heston, "Shut up, you
freak!" before blasting him with high-powered spray, is one of
the most memorable of all Apes characters. As played by actor
Buck Kartalian, Julius is a comic figure - alternately
threatening and dimwitted - and with a very distinctive look.
This figure features a custom steel and foam body with
silicone hands and hand-punched human hair, holding an antique
brass firehose nozzle. The silicone head was developed from
the only known copy of Kartalian's makeup, and also features
hand-punched human hair along with prosthetics-grade glass
eyes. The costume is one of only two Julius "hero" outfits to
have survived from the original Planet of the Apes film, and
features his named tunic with leather glyph, pants and boots.
The entire costume and display is mounted on a custom wooden
base.
