Gold MECHANIZED ROBBY THE ROBOT Osaka Tin Toy (1991)
MECHANIZED ROBBY THE ROBOT OSAKA TIN TOY INSTITUTE - 1991 - In
the year 1956, MGM released the classic Sci-Fi film "Forbidden
Planet" with distinguished actors Walter Pidgeon, Leslie
Nielson and Anne Francis. But the true star of the movie was
Robby the Robot. Robby truly deserves a star on Hollywood's
Walk of Fame, being the only special effect to have his own
film career. Over the years Robby has been seen in other films
such as "The Invisible Boy" and "Gremlins" as well as on TV in
multiple episodes of "The Twilight Zone" and "Lost In Space".
No licensed toys or figures were produced to celebrate his
theatrical debut, but a handful of tin robot toys, imported
from Japan, made their way to American shores to celebrate the
visual brilliance that was Robby. The King of these was
"Mechanized Robot" released by Japanese toy manufacturer
Nomura Company. The main release of the Robby impersonator
sported a black & red color scheme, but a much rarer, limited
release featured a silver & burgundy paint job.
Offered here is an exact reproduction, in gold, of the
infamous '50's toy, produced in 1991 under the exacting
standards of the Osaka Tin Toy Institute. Recreated from the
original metal-press molds, Mechanized Robot stands 13" tall
and features walking action, a light up head with moving
pistons & clear dome. This toy is a limited edition of only
100 units worldwide, comes in an exact recreation of the
original box and includes a numbered collector's card.
Keep in mind here, if you were ever to find the '50's
original, it would cost you the price of a new car!
Value: $800-Up.
