ROBBY THE ROBOT LUNAR KIT & DIORAMA |
Updated: May 09, 2020
FORBIDDEN PLANET - ROBBY THE ROBOT - RESIN MODEL - Until the
release of "Star Wars," Robby the Robot was the most famous
mechanical man in Hollywood history.
Robby's first appearance was on film, in the 1956 Sci-fi
classic, "Forbidden Planet." But the robot has been seen in
many other movies, and has made numerous TV appearances as
well. In fact, Robby is the only special effect to have his
own film career!
The brilliant automation was created by Japanese designer,
Robert Kinoshita, whose credits also include the blinking
"Lost in Space" robot. Shown here is a fantastic resin model
of Robby, and probably the finest, most accurate model figure
of the character ever produced. Meticulously crafted, this is
an early resin kit of Robby, released 14 years ago by the
original Lunar Models of Texas. The sculpture is magnificent,
and does a fine job interpreting the classic movie robot in
miniature, with every aspect in perfect proportion, and each
part crisply realized. Assembled, Robby stands approx. 10 1/2"
tall, and features a clear vacu-form dome, as well as
swiveling arms and positionable hands. All parts are cleanly
pressure cast in solid resin, with smaller parts still sealed
in their polybag.
This rare wonder is complete, unbuilt, and comes packed in its
original box with a color photo attached. Now 50, Robby the
Robot continues to spark the imagination of millions, and is
surely a major pop culture icon of the 20th Century. When it
comes to robots in resin, it just doesn't get any better than
Lunar's Robby.
Value: $200.
