THE FANTASTIC VOYAGE PROTEUS ORIGINAL DRAWING |
Updated: May 23, 2024
Original two pencil drawing of the submarine Proteus by Bachman from the production of Fantastic Voyage ( 20th Century Fox, 1966 ),
one labelled "Miniature Submarine 'Proteus'," the other labelled "Miniature Sub" and "3/8''" and dated 6/25/65. Both drawings are signed by Dale Hennesy, one of the film's art directors. These drawings were found in Irwin Allen's professional papers, although
he did not work on Fantastic Voyage. The production team of Lost in Space ( CBS, 1965-68 ) most likely received the drawings as research for the shooting of the episode "The Derelict," which is believed to have used sets from Voyage ( L.B. Abbott was on the visual effects production teams for both Voyage and Lost in Space ). However, these drawings do not appear related to footage shot
for the episode.
In Fantastic Voyage, a submarine crew ( played by Stephen Boyd, Raquel Welch, Edmond O'Brien, Arthur Kennedy, and Donald Pleasance ) and their submarine are shrunk to miniature so they can go inside the body of an injured scientist and repair his brain. Measures
18 x 35.75 inches ( each, unfolded ); 9.25 x 12.25 inches ( each, folded ).
Value: $1,500.
