OUTLAND ORIGINAL YELLOW MINER SPACESUIT DISPLAY |
Updated: March 28, 2025
A yellow miner spacesuit display from Peter Hyams' sci-fi thriller Outland. Spacesuits were worn by the Con-Am 27 workers in various scenes as they mined for titanium on Jupiter's moon Io.
Created by Oscar winning costume designer John Mollo, the intentionally distressed suit is made of yellow cotton and decorated with quilted sections, a "Francoise" name emblem, a Con-Am 27 patch, and strips of webbing edged with blue piping. Four detailed resin components with faux-silver dressing adorn the front.
Accompanying the suit is a helmet consisting of a vacuum-formed plastic shell with affixed non-functioning lights and a clear acrylic visor. The interior is lined with cushioned PVC and labelled "No. 3". Presented on a custom-made display, the costume has become discolored over time. There is notable paint wear on the helmet and light scratches on the visor. Some components are missing from the bottom of the helmet's front and the interior lights are no longer present. Dimensions ( Displayed ): 38 cm x 58 cm x 204 cm ( 15" x 22" x 80" ).
Value: $8,000.
