Syd Mead Original "V'Ger" Concept Sketch for Star Trek: The Motion Picture ( Paramount, 1979 ). Vintage original concept sketch accomplished in pencil, ink and artists' marker on 11" x 8.5" artists' vellum. Depicting the iconic "V'Ger", a mysterious and immensely powerful alien cloud, revealed to be the lost 20th-century Earth space probe "Voyager", found by an alien race of living machines that upgrade the probe. On its journey the probe gathers so much knowledge it achieves consciousness. The sketch highlights the multi-faceted, kaleidoscopic nature and vast intricacy of V'Ger's A.I. fabricated landscape surface. With note in the margin "5" and signed by the legendary visual futurist, designer and artist Syd Mead. Light handling from production use, including neat pinholes at each corner.
