DeForest Kelly "Dr. McCoy" Remote Control from Episode, "Spock's Brain" Originally Used as a Communicator from Pilot Episode, "The Cage" of Star Trek: The Original Series ( Paramount TV, 1966-1969 ). Vintage original hero hand prop constructed of cast clear acrylic with plastic and aluminum static knobs and multi-colored square buttons. Expertly hand-painted in industrial gray enamels with metallic gold diamond striping. Highly visible and an essential element used by Dr. McCoy ( Kelly ) as a remote control to operate Spock's ( Leonard Nimoy ) brainless body while the crew tries to retrieve his stolen brain. This prop was originally used as a Starfleet Communicator in the pilot episode "The Cage" ( built by Wah Chang ) and was modified and reused for "Spock's Brain". The metal mesh flip-lid was removed and the top was painted and embellished with ten static buttons. The unpainted bottom of the prop exhibits the embedded circuitry and electronics visible in "The Cage". Featured on page 13 in the book The Art of Star Trek by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens ( Simon and Schuster, 1995 ). Measuring 8.75" x 5" x 2" and exhibiting age, production wear, and minor scratching.
