STAR WARS ORIGINAL EWOK MASK |
Updated: March 26, 2026
An Ewok mask created from original components from the production of Richard Marquand's Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Forest dwelling Ewoks helped the Rebel Alliance make its last stand against the Galactic Empire in the climactic Battle of Endor.
The Ewoks were designed by makeup designer Stuart Freeborn and created by Freeborn, his wife Kay, and his son Graham based on original concepts inspired by Star Wars creator George Lucas own Brussels Griffon. Known as the "grandfather of modern makeup design," Freeborn was nominated for a BAFTA for his work on the film. The loyal, furry aliens went on to feature in multiple installments in the blockbuster franchise and became among its most popular and recognizable creatures.
This mask was assembled after filming using original production components created in Freeborn's workshop for the Ewoks' costumes. The nose, lips and eyelids were all a one piece face cast while the ears were made separately. The pieces were later assembled by Tom Spina Designs, using original eyeball elements and production fur from Freeborn's workshop. It features a foam latex nose, lips, eyelids, and ears hand-punched with synthetic blonde Ewok fur, large plastic eyes inset at center, and foam lining along the interior. Also included is a mannequin head for stability and display. The mask exhibits glue remnants and minor stains on the interior.
Value: $10,000.
