Superman is the golden standard for superheroes. Fighting for truth, justice, and freedom, Superman represents all that is good in the world. Unlike other superheroes such as Iron Man, Batman, or Thor, Superman does not often find himself struggling with moral dilemmas such as substance abuse, worthiness, or faith. While unrealistic in many regards, it is this unbreakable commitment to being a hero that makes Superman what he is. He is the best of all of us, no matter what. Exploring what would happen if Superman were to have such an identity crisis once resulted in an incredibly polarizing Superman story, one that both managed to stray as far as possible from Supermans original formula while also exemplifying the elements that make the Man of Steel work.
