ORIGINAL ALIEN VENUSIAN COSTUME

Updated: August 25, 2023

Featured here is the original alien masks used on "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" TV series. This mask was used on the episode called, "Journey of Fear" episode #88 and airdated on 10-15-67 starring guest star, Robert Duvall. The alien creature was named "Venusian" and was reused several times on Irwin Allen's TV shows.

The mask is made of rubber latex, and is in need of restoration. Rarely, do any make-up props, costumes, etc. ever come available on Irwin Allen's productions. This mask was obtained on a trade auction deal many years ago with the previous owner. I wish to thank, "Arthur" of El Paso Texas for sharing this item with us.

This item is currently up for bid on eBay if your interested in purchasing it? The second mask is yet another original mask of the same alien creature from the series. The mask was originally from the collection of "Forrest J. Ackerman" the pioneer of prop collectibles of classic monster films. Mr. Ackerman is also well known from the "Monsters of Filmland" magazines. The item was auction from his private collection in the early 1990's held in New York City. As you can see, it is also in need of repair. It is believe that this costume design was taken from the classic movie, "Creature from the Black Lagoon". It must have been a nightmare for the actor wearing this make-up? I guess seeing and breathing wasn't a big deal, just get your lines right? The last photo was an original mask from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

The prop was modifified for other productions in the 1960's. The prop was from the private collection of Famous Monster of Filmland, Forrest J. Ackerman. The item went up for bid on eBay on 09/07/02. The mask is made of latex rubber being 14" and filled with foam to keep the shape as it once was used. With only 4 bids, I lost this special item, and selling for only $202.50.

( * ) Received an e-mail and photos from "Thomas Howard" on this item. His friend owns the body costume on this prop. He was kind enough to send them to me to post on our website! The body costume is an excellent condition. Congratulations to the new owner of this great piece of history!

Value: $800.
