PLANET OF THE APES ORIGINAL CHIMPANZEE ENSEMBLE |
Updated: May 24, 2024
A chimpanzee ensemble from Franklin J. Schaffner's sci-fi classic Planet of the Apes ( 20th Century Fox, 1968 ). The ensemble is comprised of a green cotton tunic, a pair of matching green cotton trousers, and a pair of shoes.
The green tunic features brown faux-leather at the collar, with additional green faux-leather details on the arms and on the wrists
in the form of emblems attached with Velcro. It closes at the back via a hidden zipper. In order to give the appearance of an undershirt, thick woven sleeves are sewn into the ends of the tunic's arms. A Western Costume tag is present inside the tunic and is labeled with "2771-1" and a chest size of 42.
The trousers feature internal markings reading "2771-4", a waist size of 36, and an inseam size of 33 from Western Costume. The
tunic and the pants both feature fabric fading making their appearance appear yellow-brown in tone as well as their original green.
The shoes are modified pairs of Sears Jeepers athletic shoes and are covered with matching green canvas fabric to appear as boots. Black marker writing on the soles of the shoes and on the inside of the covering fabric read "Elliot" and "7M." Notably, the sole
of each shoe is custom-shaped to appear as if it was made for ape feet.
Value: $2,000.
