2005-11-05 - GLOBAL SCI-FI EXPO |
Updated: November 13, 2005
On Saturday November 5, 2005 Larry Lee Moniz, Kirk Roderick, and I
attended the 1st annual Global Sci-Fi Expo event at the Airtel Plaza
Hotel in Van Nuys California. We arrived late showing Hollywood to
Larry Lee Moniz, and eating the biggest pizza slice of our lifes. We
first met the great "Farnum" actor Leonard Stone. What a delightful
man Leonard is, and we chatted about his career. Leonard told us
like Jonathan Harris, created the Farnum character that was not on
the script, and was even close on a spin off series on the
character. We also chatted with Deanna Lund and Don Matheson from
Land of the Giants. Deanna looks great, and Don shared some memories
with us. Including some falls and going to the hospital while the
crew waited for him to finish his sceen in which he did. Attendance
was very poor for this event, mostly lacking promotional
advertisment. Never the less alot of stars came out for the 3 day
event.
The evening rounded off with a nice dinner with about 100 people in
attendance. After dinner a charity auction was conducted with host
Bob May. The charity was for the "Make a Wish Foundation" for the
needs of children. A short video was shown on Bob May's grandson,
Devin who had cancer 3 years ago, and is doing very well. Devin's
love and dream was to swim with a dolphin, which he did in Hawaii.
It was a very emotional moment for all of us. At the end of the
auction Bob raised nearly $3,000.
We ended the event at midnite, and took a very special family photo.
We would like to thank Bob May and his family for a wonderful event,
and thanks all those that came out and supported the event.
